Cognitive Skills

Accountability in Cognitive Skills. Why does being accountable for our emotions and behavior require so much effort? In society today the more we get away with reckless and unacceptable behavior the more we continue that behavior.

We trick our minds into accepting the lack of accountability as normal behavior. When our reckless behavior is addressed, we don’t like it. We get angry with everyone that has input in addressing that behavior.

Rarely do we OWN our reckless behavior, rarely do we hold ourselves accountable, and although we know better, we rarely think our consequences are fair.

Accountability in Cognitive Skills may just change your life!

Consequences come in many forms. The most rejected consequence is when we are arrested and the negative consequences that follow. Most often we are surprised when our behavior is addressed from a criminal aspect, thinking “I only had three beers, it was just one molly”, or I only fight when people won’t leave me alone”. Reckless behavior, such as addiction, depression, anger, domestic violence, compulsive shoplifting, and theft, anxiety, not only affects the person engaging in that behavior, it also affects the community. The community includes family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and all other citizens within.

When we are engaged in negative behavior as a community it has to be addressed and when we accept ownership of our behavior it is at that point we are open to accountability. Once we accept accountability for our reckless behavior we understand the consequences we know to expect are inevitable. We are able to embrace the corrective behavior skills presented and if practiced we have the ability to make better decisions in our life. We learn to adapt from the learned behavior and our environmental influences, we learn to and conform to positive thinking and not respond to negative thinking or negative emotions as we understand that would contribute to a cycle of chaos in our lives and no accountability.

Family Violence Intervention Program Decatur

Family Violence Intervention Program Decatur

The National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) in 2008 composed a definition of domestic violence that lends legitimacy to this term: “Domestic violence constitutes the willful intimidation, assault, battery, sexual assault or other abusive behavior perpetrated by one family member, household member, or intimate partner against another.” When defined in this manner, the term includes all others.

FVIP Counseling is Essential

Domestic violence prevention constitutes the various means by which societies; governments and individuals attempt to forestall violence in the home. Domestic violence may consist of psychological, emotional, sexual or physical aspects. Preventing domestic violence is tricky since, by the time anyone has an inkling that things are not right, an incident has already occurred. In fact, victims often wait until long after the event to report an incident of domestic violence. Research has also shown that victims are likely to encounter emergency room personnel, social workers or health care professionals who have little knowledge of domestic violence. These professionals may even express negative attitudes toward the victims, deeming them weak or at fault.
Any effort toward preventing domestic violence must begin with educating professionals who represent the likely first point of contact for many victims of domestic violence. Better yet, professionals should be trained to spot signs of abuse or potential abuse in their patients who may be afraid or reluctant to discuss domestic abuse. These steps may not prevent abuse before it happens but can prevent it from happening in the future. More Visit us now>>

ASAM Classes

ASAM classes are recommended at different levels after the preliminary evaluation and assessment. The recommendation for ASAM Classes is based on several different criteria. It is specific to each individual’s situations and needs.

The clinician who originally conducted the evaluation will recommend an intensive schedule of ASAM classes that address many issues, some of which don’t initially involve drug use, abuse, or addiction. The level of ASAM classes assigned to an individual will depend on the individual’s personal needs to change.  Counseling includes life skills and coping strategies to overcome adversities, addiction, and  the ability to handle everyday situations that will arise while trying to recover.

American Alternative Court Services provides three types of therapy Counseling that are obligatory to effectively complete the assigned ASAM classes. The first type of Counseling in ASAM Classes is group therapy, where individuals meet in a group setting to discuss all issues and reservations that may prevent a person from completing the course. The second type of therapy in relation to ASAM is Relationship groups. These allow for family members and loved ones to become engaged in the recovery process by dealing with any resentment, anger, and disappointment associated with co-dependency. The last type of therapy Counseling as related to ASAM, which I find very helpful personally, is group therapy. I believe the point of the group is to help find similarities and differences in others’ addiction to initiate healthy discussions that help find alternative coping mechanisms that may differ from your own that can help ease the road to recovery.

Dealing with Anger- Anger Management Classes

Anger is a common and normal emotion. In general, anger has been given a negative connotation. This is simply due to the destructive nature it can possess when not harnessed properly. While it’s true you can’t hold it in and let it fester, it’s imperative that you have some sort of release.

This release can come in the form of working out, talking to someone, pursuing a hobby, etc. These are just a few examples out of the many.
Anger can be a temporary fuel that can motivate you to get started on a task. Emphasis on temporary. However, it would be unhealthy to consistently use anger as fuel. It wouldn’t leave you any room to be happy. It can impact your judgment and make you more impulsive which ultimately leads to bad decision-making. Constant anger, in a nutshell, is detrimental to your health and well-being.
How can you combat this? By being aware of your own emotions. Once you can identify when you start becoming angry, you can take measures to release it before it gets too explosive. Techniques such as deep breathing, counting backward from ten, & looking at

Family Violence Intervention Program or Batterers Intervention Program classes can vary in length depending on the state where the violation occurred. California has a minimum 52-week course while Georgia’s is only 24 weeks. Upon completing the entire program, the individuals will be given a certificate of completion and anyone who needs to be notified can and will be. When entering one of these programs there is typically what is known as a victim liaison. When you are first starting your class, you will need to provide intake documentation that is quite detailed. A portion of this intake documentation will be in reference to whatever individual(s) may have been a part of your arrest. The purpose of the victim liaison is to inform the victim when the individuals both begin and finish the course of treatment.
