The Cognitive Skills Class at AACS Atlanta is designed for individuals who need a higher level of care to address serious challenges in their lives. This program focuses on faulty thinking patterns and guides participants through a structured process of restructuring their thoughts and behaviours within a supportive group therapy environment.
Sessions are held once a week for 2 hours, over a commitment of 12 to 24 weeks.
The Cognitive Skills program operates similarly to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). It addresses dependencies, addictions, depression, eating disorders, and other mental health concerns without the need for detoxification or invasive treatments.
Participants are guided by a specialised therapist to process lifelong traumatic issues within a group setting. Most clients benefit significantly from this therapeutic process, with many beginning to experience greater self-awareness, independence, and personal fulfilment as the program progresses.
The Cognitive Skills program is built around one central goal: helping you break the cycles of thinking and behaviour that have limited your growth and personal development:
The Cognitive Skills program is a weekly group therapy commitment. Participants meet once a week for a 2-hour session over 12 to 24 weeks, depending on individual needs.
Where applicable, substance testing is mandatory as part of weekly participation. The program provides the structure of a higher level of care while allowing participants to maintain their daily responsibilities — work, family, and self-care — outside of sessions.
Once the program is completed and relapse prevention goals have been met, lower levels of care may be recommended to support continued progress.
The Cognitive Skills program serves individuals dealing with:
Substance dependencies and addictions
Depression and mood-related difficulties
Eating disorders
Other mental health challenges that require structured group intervention
Participants attend both by court or clinical referral and voluntarily, recognising that the issues they’re facing need more than basic outpatient support.
